Open Bolton: social prescribing gives both the people and practitioners of Bolton the opportunity to view and access all the services, projects and teams available to them in one place.
It is a signposting resource with dual use for both members of the public and health professionals, giving them information and access to services, organisations and schemes that offer non-medical solutions to broader determinates on ill-health that can be the root cause of illness. Simply put it links those who need help with the community based organisations that can provide it.

Within Open Bolton there is a whole section dedicated to mental health and wellbeing, this is because lots of the activities offered by organisations within Open Bolton are known to protect and improve mental health and wellbeing. The Explore Your Life page contains a number of buttons, each button represents a lifestyle factor which is known to improve mental health and wellbeing, for example ‘connecting with others’ or ‘being more active’. By clicking on a button you will find information on how each factor effects emotional health, links to useful websites and downloadable resources such as self help leaflets. You can also view all local organisations who are offering services that help with each factor, for example under ‘connecting with others’ you will find organisations that offer social events, befriending, volunteering etc. This part of the website is useful for public and health professionals alike, especially health professionals who need to support their clients or patients to have better mental health and wellbeing.
