Dolls’ house to show healthy homes

An interactive dolls’ house is to be taken on a tour of health centres, baby clinics and children’s centres to promote healthy living.

During the Healthy Homes tour, professionals from NHS Bolton will give health advice on three major campaigns that have run throughout the previous year: Safe Sleeping; Smoke Free Homes; and Get Me Toasty.

The dolls’ house opens up to show all the rooms of a traditional house, including two potential bedrooms to show safe and unsafe sleeping, as well as loft and cavity wall insulation and certificates to show that the house’s residents do not smoke.

At the events on the tour parents and children can interact with the house, and learn what it takes to make their own home healthy.

The tour will run from Monday, January 9 until Thursday, February 23 and take in 15 venues across the borough in a series of two hour sessions.

The Safe Sleeping campaign sees NHS Bolton and Bolton Council working with Salford and Wigan local authorities in a joint initiative to reduce the number of sudden infant deaths by highlighting a number of ways to ensure that babies sleep safely.

NHS Bolton in partnership with Bolton Council has run the Keep Warm Keep Well campaign  over the years to demonstrate the importance of a having a warm healthy home and the various ways they can achieve this.

Smoke Free Homes is a campaign run by NHS Bolton to offer help and advice to those who are trying to protect themselves and their families from tobacco smoke by smoking outside their homes.

Jan Hutchinson, Director of Public Health at NHS Bolton and Bolton Council, said: “These three campaigns all form crucial parts of our drive to make Bolton’s homes healthier.

“The advice and guidance given at these roadshows will help many families, and the dolls’ house should provide a great visual, interactive description of what the campaigns are trying to convey.”
