Health advice and support is available to all families with young children from teams of health visitors. Once children reach school age, general health support and advice on a wide range of topics is provided through the school nursing service. For young people from the ages of 11 to 19 we have a dedicated health centre called The Parallel, which provides tailor-made services encompassing emotional well-being as well as physical health.
Child Health Clinics are provided throughout the area in health centres and health clinics. They are run by health visitors who offer support and advice about your child's general health and development. Health visitors will check children's progress through developmental assessments and offer immunisation. Details of local clinics can be obtained by contacting your local health centre or clinic.
Much more specialised services are now available in community settings and at home for children with disabilities, long term health problems and serious illnesses. Consultant community paediatricians work in the community and offer advice about childhood problems, which may include development, behaviour or general health problems. The consultant community paediatricians and many of our specialised community services for children are based at the Halliwell Health Centre.
