Asylum Seekers and Refugees - Specialist Nurse

Who we are

Asylum Seekers and Refugees come from different backgrounds and cultures and have had a wide range of experiences which may affect their health.  Due to difficulties with language and communication, cultural, economic and social issues they may find it difficult to access health information, health promotion and mainstream health services.

Catherine Hay is a registered nurse who works within the Bolton Council Asylum Team and the Bolton Primary Care Trust to support service users in accessing mainstream health services and to raise awareness among service providers about issues affecting this group.

How the Team works

The specialist nurse is based within Bolton Council Asylum Team.

She works in partnership with the charity Refugee Action and Bolton GPs supporting arrivals of refugees through the Gateway Protection Programme.
