Bolton Wheelchair Service provides permanent wheelchairs for Bolton residents with a physical disability affecting mobility, who candemonstrate that they will use a wheelchair on a regular basis.
A small team of clinic based therapists and support workers who aim to assess the clinical mobility need of those who have permanent physical mobility difficulties. We provide manual and powered wheelchairs and any associated seating to be used in the wheelchair, to residents of
Assessment is carried out by trained staff, following referral from a doctor or a therapist. Clinical need is established following discussion and physical assessment, and suitable equipment is issued, or sourced and ordered. Equipment is handed over and maintenance arrangements are outlined. Re assessment is via appointment at clinic.

We encourage other therapists to attend appointments to ensure that their patient’s needs are fully explained and wherever possible met.
Training of therapists and therapy assistants is undertaken to enable them to assess and prescribe basic wheelchairs directly from this Service.
Advice is always available by phoning the department
Referral is initially via GP, Consultant, Health or Social Care professional, using the Service’s referral form.
Once the wheelchair has been issued the user may re refer themselves for re-assessment by telephone.
