Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)

Who we are

This Tier 2 service is a community service utilising the facilities within the ENT department at Royal Bolton Hospital. We see patients with non-complex, non-surgical ENT conditions.

All referrals to ENT are triaged for suitability for Tier 2 ENT and if appropriate are then seen by the Tier 2 ENT service. The service is led by a GP with a special interest in ENT (previously a fully trained and qualified middle grade ENT surgeon with FRCS Otolaryngology), and trained nurses with a strong ENT background.

How the Team works

The overall aim of our service is to provide an easily accessible service where patients can obtain a specialist opinion very quickly.

What do we offer?

We offer appointments on a Friday afternoon and convenient Saturday morning appointments where patients receive a consistently high standard of care. On a Friday afternoon we work with the hospital Audiology Department to provide hearing tests and aids, with continuous support for Hearing Aid users.

We see patients from Age 6 upwards. The types of problems we commonly treat are:-

  • All kinds of hearing loss
  • Ear infections (all otitis externa and some otitis media)
  • Epistaxis (nosebleeds)
  • Snoring and Sleep Apnoea
  • Suction Clearance - A safe alternative to the commonly used syringing method commonly used to dewax ears.
